While there are certain established angles and dimensions that are considered “attractive,” Dr. Locketz understands that each patient’s concept of beauty is unique and dependent on their gender, background, and ethnicity. He strives to deliver customized results that are one-of-a-kind, perfectly tailored to the individual. With male rhinoplasty, Dr. Locketz will consider the overall profile in order to harmonize the nose with the other features.

What is Male Rhinoplasty?

While women typically desire a more petite nose with an upturned tip, men usually wish for a more chiseled appearance with a nose that is balanced by a strong chin. Male noses tend to have thicker skin, a wider mid-nose area, and a more prominent bridge. Dr. Locketz will assess each patient’s unique characteristics and ethnic identity to create a customized treatment plant, identifying the ideal columellar angle, nasal width, and dorsal hump projection to create balance and symmetry. Chin augmentation with dermal fillers or a silicone implant may be suggested to comprehensively improve the profile.

As part of the surgery, Dr. Locketz will address the following metrics:

  • Nasal width
  • Nasal length
  • Nasal bridge projection
  • Tip shape
  • Tip rotation
  • Overall facial shape
  • Skin thickness
  • Chin projection and shape

Who is a Candidate for Male Rhinoplasty?

Male patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their noses may be excellent candidates for our male rhinoplasty in Denver, provided that they are mentally and physically healthy non-smokers who are free from any uncontrolled medical concerns that might interfere with their treatment or its recovery. They may have tried or considered liquid rhinoplasty but now desire a more lasting and comprehensive solution that will address their concerns with the nasal tip, bridge, or nostrils.

Dr. Locketz prioritizes patient safety and will conduct an in-depth consultation process to ensure male rhinoplasty is the right choice for each patient. He may request blood work, x-rays, a full medical history, an EKG, and a physical exam in order to clear the patient for surgery. Lastly, it is important that patients have realistic expectations for their results, focusing on improvement rather than perfection. Dr. Locketz will explain the benefits and risks of rhinoplasty so that patients can most accurately predict their outcomes.

Male Rhinoplasty Techniques

Open

During open rhinoplasty, Dr. Locketz will create a small, inconspicuous incision at the base of the nose across the columella. This affords him the most access and flexibility in addressing the internal structures of the nose.

Closed

During closed rhinoplasty, small incisions are made inside the nostrils, where they are hidden from view. A closed approach may be appropriate for those individuals requiring minimal to moderate changes in nasal structure.

Recovery from Male Rhinoplasty

Recovery is different for each patient, depending on the techniques used and the extent of the work performed. If chin augmentation is performed in tandem with male rhinoplasty, treatment times may be extended. During the first week of recovery, it is common to experience swelling, bruising, and congestion. These symptoms will slowly disappear on their own as the nose heals. Patients will be seen for regular follow-up visits to ensure their recovery is progressing smoothly without incident.

While gentle walks are encouraged right away, strenuous activities and contact sports should be avoided for up to 6 weeks, or as instructed by Dr. Locketz. Because there will be minor residual swelling present for up to one year, it is important that patients not judge their results too early. Dr. Locketz will provide detailed instructions, prescriptions for pain management, and ongoing support for each patient.
