What is Arm Lift Surgery?

A common challenge many people may deal with while getting older or losing weight is excess skin on different parts of the body.  A common area that affects both men and women is excess skin in the upper arm area. At Peak Plastic Surgery Center, we offer many different surgeries specifically to correct excess skin, including arm lift surgery (also called brachioplasty). This powerful skin tightening surgery is used to correct loose upper arm skin for people who cannot manage to tighten and tone this area with exercise and diet alone.

Arm lift surgery removes the excess skin that is located between the elbow and armpit, often called "bat wings." Often times liposuction may also be used to remove excess fat in the area in addition to skin removal to provide more powerful result.  Dr. Eric Barker, a highly trained cosmetic plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Denver, CO, is a breast and body specialist who has preformed numerous brachioplasty surgeries on both men and women.  He will work with you to develop a comprehensive and customized surgical plan to ensure your goals are met and have an excellent result.

If you would like to learn more information about how brachioplasty surgery can improve the shape and contour of your upper arms, please contact us for an appointment at Peak Plastic Surgery Center.

How Is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?

Your upper arm lift surgery will take place in an certified outpatient facility. An upper arm lift may be combined with other procedures (usually performed in an inpatient setting for monitoring), including tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, and thigh lifts — if Dr. Barker considers it safe. An upper arm lift is performed under general anesthesia by highly trained anesthesiologists who are experienced with cosmetic plastic surgeries. The excessive skin from elbow all the way up to the underarm will be removed to ensure your upper arm skin is no longer loose along with improvement in contour and shape. If liposuction is required to remove stubborn pockets of fat, this may also be recommended to provide a more pleasing contoured shape of your upper arm. Once the loose skin is removed and the remaining is tightened, it will be closed with absorbable sutures that do not need to be removed. You will have to care for the incisions by keeping them clean, bandaged, and supported with compression garments.

What Results Can I Expect from Arm Lift Surgery?

Your recovery period for an arm lift surgery is extremely important.  Dr. Barker and his staff will give you written instructions for all of your postoperative instructions to ensure you are well informed and comfortable with the recovery process.  Postoperative compression garments will be provided to help with swelling and healing.  You will have lifting and exercise restrictions following your surgery to ensure you heal without issue.  All of these will be discussed in depth with you, and will also be included in your written instructions.  Dr. Barker will ensure all of your questions/concerns are addressed prior to surgery regarding the postoperative healing process to ensure you are confident and comfortable with your decision to undergo arm lift surgery.  At the end of your recovery, you can expect to have an improved shape and contour of your upper arms with no excess hanging skin.
